The roots of Uzbek boxing go back to American boxer Sidney Jackson, who arrived in Tashkent in 1914 and later became one of the key figures in establishing boxing in the region.

As Uzbekistan became part of the USSR, boxing developed within the Soviet boxing system, with a strong emphasis on technical repetition, movement, defence, timing, conditioning and tactical preparation.

Over the decades, Uzbek coaches and athletes shaped these influences into a distinctive boxing school of their own, known for its technical precision, discipline and competitive level.

After independence in 1991, Uzbekistan continued to develop this tradition through its national teams, specialist coaches and training centres, becoming one of the strongest nations in world amateur boxing.
